Modernism as the Enemy of Solidarity

By David Wemhoff

Modernism separates Man from God and His Religion, and Man from Man.  The Christian virtue of solidarity is the antidote as it establishes a legitimate society and ends the exploitation by the powerful private interests.

Warring Doctrines

Pope St Pius X in his encyclical Pascendi Dominici Gregis set forth the principles underlying Modernist doctrines and the manifestation of Modernism in society.  While recognizing that these manifestations appeared disjointed and arrived at different times, a common set of beliefs undergirded Modernism.

An Answer to a Question:  Woman

“In the beginning was Man.  And then Woe-Man!”  — Colloquial joke.

A couple of weeks ago a fellow Catholic asked a question in one of his articles:  Why did so-and-so do what she did?  I am not going to get into any specifics as to names and subject matter because I think there is a bigger issue at play here, and doing so only serves to distract.  (Heck, it’s easy enough for people to get distracted by one thing or another without naming names.)

Lessons from the Taliban:  Ethnicity As An Antidote to Liberalism

When people forget what made them successful, and when they ignore the obvious, when they ignore competent advice, then they make mistakes and bad things happen.  Nowhere is this all more evident now than in Afghanistan as the Taliban swiftly reoccupy the territory, cutting off land bridges to its neighbors Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and putting the Afghan security forces to flight.  The US military command effectively came to an end on July 12 when the last commanding general, General Austin “Scott” Miller “closed up shop” in Kabul relinquishing command of the US Forces in Afghanistan.  Thenceforth, the fighting would be prosecuted via long distance from the US by another four star general who would for the most part do little more other than to authorize air strikes on Taliban positions.[1]  As this is being written, the Afghan government announced it was in a defensive posture as it attempted to defend provincial capitals and also Kabul, after the United Nations headquarters in the western part of the country was attacked and car bombings started in the supposedly safe “green zone” of the capital city.[2]

Pirates By Any Other Name

The masks are coming off, the vaccines are available, the outsides are filling with people, restaurants and stores are resuming normal life, the “pandemic” recedes, the troops are leaving Washington DC, there are no more reports of “peaceful protests” for racial injustice (though some cities still burn), and the tension dissipates.

No

Joe Biden, apparent President of the United States, tweeted on May 13 “After a year of hard work and so much sacrifice, the rule is now simple:  get vaccinated or wear a mask until you do.”

Earlier the same day, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that “fully vaccinated people don’t need to wear a mask or physically distance during outdoor or indoor activities, large or small” but that they “should continue to wear a mask while traveling by plane, bus or train”.  However, that “guidance doesn’t apply to certain places such as hospitals, nursing homes and prisons.”

Merry Christmas?

(Written on December 26, 2020, the Feast of St. Stephen, the first martyr for Catholicism.)

Midnight Mass.

Protestants and Catholics hold religious services on Christmas Day with all the pomp and pageantry that only they can bring to these ceremonies.  And as you watch the ceremony and listen to the beautiful singing while enjoying the colors of the season, it is all really empty.  Empty because the participants in these ceremonies, and the leaders of the various churches and congregations, have ignored the weightier matters as did the Pharisees and Scribes in the time of Jesus.  (See Matthew 23:23.)

War Works: The Rhetoric Seems to Point That Way

(This article was posted October 31, 2020.  Then came the election and the reaction.  It was fierce.  We determined after some discussion and thought that we should repost this article as more relevant than ever.  This is a brief reflection on the division in the United States, the current civil war, and the two sides that are identifiable at this point.)

The rhetoric of post election violence and civil war escalates. During this entire full week before the General Election, the media has been running one story after another of election day and post election day violence,[1] of President Trump refusing to abide by the results of the election, and of the danger to civil peace posed by White Supremicists or White Nationalists.

Another Dead Consensus:  Catholicism Struggling to Assert Itself

For more than ten years, ever since my talk at the National Right to Life Convention in July, 2008, I have been calling for the fundamental reorganization of the society known as America.  That is because America is based on an ideology which rejects Catholicism and is a complete break with human history.  While it appeared beneficial, Liberalism which is that ideology on which America is based, is increasingly showing that it is harmful to those it touches, both materially and spiritually.  Wealth is more concentrated, up to one sixth of US citizens go to bed hungry at night, suicides are skyrocketing and workers are dying sooner than expected at record rates, adequate health care is lacking for tens of millions, the birth rate has dropped to 1.7 (a recurrent feature of America ever since the American Revolution), the divorce rate remains astronomical, endless political strife, and more.  Spiritually, the number of young people who even believe in God has dropped to about a third.  Liberalism has always been harmful to those it touches (ask the American Indians) it is just now becoming obvious to its staunchest supporters.
