Our Great Strength
Donald Trump is the President Elect. It is time to come together and get behind him. We may have a desire for different policies, and we should make those desires known. Mr. Trump will be the 47th President, and we must come together to face great challenges both domestically and internationally. If we do not, then we shall all suffer.
Some people, including foreign powers, are purposely seeking to divide us. We are being subjected to information operations. Information operations may have, as an objective, the intensification of divisions in society and the creation and reinforcement of certain perceptions that may seem irreconcilable with others. In other words, information operations from foreign and domestic actors can be used to create, or reinforce, alternate realities that are irreconcilable with each other, or can be used to destroy the ability to compromise and find common ground. Information operations are designed to destroy us.
This makes ever more important Inter Mirifica which came from Vatican II. It also makes it ever more important that producers and consumers of information be scrupulous in adhering to the moral law and in collaborating with each other in bringing us together in truth. Diversity, though differently defined from time to time, has always been a part of America in one way or another. Yet our institutions and our attitudes allowed us to find common ground and advance, and even prosper in many ways. Part of right attitude is a desire to work together and to keep the past in the past and not as something that is a source of conflict. Grudges, grievances, must be let go for they are not a proper basis for right action. It is justice and charity that is to motivate us as we move forward.
Thomas Paine was right about at least one thing. He wrote in Common Sense, “It is…in unity, that our great strength lies.” Truth is essential for unity as is compassion and a recognition that we are all citizens of the same country. We sink or swim together whether we like it or not, and as Abraham Lincoln rightly said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
Let us come together and move forward together to successfully meet the challenges ahead. We have much good to do, and to bring. Yes, unity is our great strength. Our greatest strength is faith, and trust in God.
